Our Specialty – Brake Checks

Having been in business since 1958, we are no strangers to completing brake checks and repairs here in Calgary. We’ve seen them in all conditions, and seasons, and on a variety of makes and models. As perhaps one of the most important safety features of your vehicle, you can trust us to ensure they are in the best working order. Because when one of us isn’t safe on the road, none of us are safe on the road.

What to Ask When Getting Your Brakes Checked

How much experience do you have in completing brake checks?

Brakes can be finicky – and as we know, they’re not something that should be assessed casually. A knowledgeable, seasoned technician is your best choice for a brake check so that no stone is left unturned. Many parts need to be reviewed, including the master cylinder, the brake pads and rotors, the brake calipers, and the brake fluid. With over 60 years of experience, we are confident in our ability to complete a full, comprehensive assessment of your brakes.

What kind of brakes can you perform inspections on?

Since their popularization in the late 1960s, Bowest Motors has become very familiar with brake checks on anti-lock brake systems (ABS). As you may know, this type of brake system prevents the wheels from locking to prevent loss of control and skidding, and they are the most common style of brakes installed in vehicles today. Additionally, we have experience with several older vehicles and classics which may use power, disc, or drum brake systems instead. Of course, we also check your emergency brakes to make sure the fail-safe always has your back.

If my brakes need repairs or new parts, do I need to go to another auto repair shop?

A one-stop shop is always the most convenient way to go, so why not have your brake check and repairs done all at once? At Bowest, we are more than happy to complete your brake inspection AND provide any necessary repairs and replacement parts. We will always communicate any additional services required, including prices, with you before proceeding.

My vehicle is still under warranty; can you complete my brake check and necessary repairs or replacements for free?

While we would be happy to complete any required maintenance and repairs on your car under our regular fee schedule, we cannot do it for free, even if your car is still under warranty. For any warranty-covered maintenance, repairs, or replacements, you will need to return to the dealership – this is standard procedure at Calgary auto maintenance shops.
